MORE THAN TWO DOZEN WAYS TO DIE… Guess who found almost every single one?!
I found this scrolling through the Horror section on AudioBooksUnleashed. I already know that I like Mark Tullius, so that part is a no brainer. I saw the word ‘Interactive’ and my eyes lit up, my ears twitched…then I saw ‘Choose -Your-Own-Adventure..” I made a weird little ‘eiieeee!!! ::clapclapclap::’ sound, and I was redeeming my code before I could even figure out what the Hell that weird noise that just came out of my mouth was. I had already started the book when I realized that I missed the part where this is BOOK TWO.in the series! Oh well, it’s good so far, let’s keep on truckin’. I don’t think that the fact I died seven times by chapter twelve had anything to do with me skipping Book One. By the time I finished trying not to die In Brightside, I had died twenty times. I gotta chalk that up to poor impulse control, and bad decision making. I’m hooked now though. I’m trying to decide if I should go back and read Book 1 now, or search the earth to see if Book Three is available because I’m starting to develop an eye twitch trying to figure out what is going to happen next! It’s narrated by Maxine Denis. I don’t think I’ve listened to anything else she has narrated, but I think she did a great job here. An audio book can die from it’s narrator – I’ve shelved quite a few. This was really good, and I hope she stays throughout the series.
Here’s a little refresher as to what happened in the Games 4: Maze…
Sara and Donny created a pain maze and forced people to go room to room, which eventually led to painful deaths. Sara was dealing with being pregnant, and after an injury she was put on bedrest for the sake of the unborn child. Donny decided to train the survivor of the maze as his own partner.
The survivor of the pain maze is doing everything in his power to become Donny’s best friend.
This book picks up where that book left off.
Scenes of graphic violence. You’ve been warned.
I think that this is my favorite book in this series. Let’s see, how much can I say without spoiling anything…
Book 5 feels like it has come full circle, everything has been touched upon, thought out, and dealt with, so knowing that Book 6 is coming feels like an added bonus.
I also love how the author’s different worlds are weaving together at the edges – connections are made that make us feel special for knowing these little details of ‘insider information’.
I appreciate Sara a little more than I did before. I know I have see-sawed with my opinion of her since meeting her, but I’m happy with where I’ve landed with regards to her character.
I absolutely adore Rick, and was pleasantly surprised by his arrival. He’s quirky and seems honestly friendly. I’m happy to see that he’s eating better.
I think that the idea of a seventh book isn’t out of the question. Games 7 – The Prequel: Andy’s Story could hold some very mind blowing groundwork.
In Games 1, Sara won Donny’s twisted game. In Games 2, she became his apprentice (collecting cash from debtors of Sanger Entertainment, an adult arena of illegal events). In Games 3, we got to know Donny just a little bit better. Sara found out she was pregnant and agreed to keep the baby (under the condition he helped her make a pain maze). She does not want the baby, and has plans to get an abortion that he doesn’t know about. This is where the story begins…..
After two long months of preparations, Sara finally has her maze, and she is anxious to get started. The 12 prisoners are in place, and ready to be Sara’s tortured little mice.
One of the maze participants, Bas, just might have what it takes to survive, and possibly even work with Sara and Donny.
Little do they know that Bas is a different kind of criminal, and he is dangerous. Will they figure it out before getting him too deeply involved with their work? Before everything is compromised?
I actually shouted out loud towards the end. Something that I wanted to happen – happened, and now I don’t know how I feel about it!
The only thing I do know for sure is that Games 5 is going to be intense!
Games 4 – Maze will be released July 10th, 2020. You can preorder your copy on Amazon now.
What would you do to earn ‘Easy Money’?
There’s a new reality TV game show that pays contestants to hurt themselves. How much pain would you endure to make some quick cash? Would you shoot yourself with a nail gun for $10,000? There are plenty of contestants willing to go on live TV to make a quick buck. Would you watch the show? The ratings are looking good. ‘Easy Money’ becomes the most talked about show on television.
Follow Damon Dahmer, the executive producer, as he creates such a bizarre television show. Damon is not only making good television, he is also struggling with his own inner needs to watch people in pain. Slowly, Damon pushes boundaries to find what is acceptable and what is not. Throw in his own revenge vendetta, and Damon’s personal pain show viewings, and you get the first book in the series of ‘Deadly Reality TV’.
Is the real horror what people are doing to themselves? Or is it the man that Damon reveals himself to be? Maybe it’s just scary that people are actually watching the show.
Viewer (reading) discretion is advised. Not for the faint of heart. Recommended for 18+ due to some violent content. Warning: There are some bloody scenes
I was looking for something a little different, and I am so happy that I found this new series! Fans of Matt Shaw, Sam West, Jon Athan, etc. are going to die for Sea Caummisar!
As a ‘viewer’ of EASY MONEY, I was screaming for more while cringing and ‘watching’ through my fingers. Episode one sucked me in, and even though episode two (the show, not the book), was kinda lame for us sickos, the finale made up for it and blew me away!
The ending of the book was so twisted, I did not see that coming! I’m hooked! I can’t wait to read the next two books – PAIN FOR GAIN, and HURT BANK.
Everybody knows of the terrible Murders which took place in Whitechapel, England in 1888. The notorious Jack the Ripper was responsible for the mutilation and murder of five women before he slipped away into the night never to be seen again. In this blend of fiction based on fact, Writer Charles Hapgood comes face to face with the a man claiming ripper himself years after the last brutal murder took place, and is intent on telling the story of how he was transformed from a regular child to the evil beast that he became. As Hapgood hears the story unfold, his initial skepticism is challenged by his unexpected visitor’s extensive knowledge of the crimes. As Hapgood listens, he is plunged into a world of madness, squalor, abuse and manipulation when his visitor tells how his hatred for women was countered by a desire to love and be loved, and how when obsession turns to rejection, an ordinary man can go to extraordinary lengths when he feels there is no other option left but to become a monster.
In part Two, Miller continues to confide in Hapgood about the events that transformed him from man to the monster he would become, causing Hapgood to question his own morals when more shocking and tragic details of Miller’s life are told.
Mr. Bray sure did his research before putting these stories together, and I’m enjoying my visit in 1893 Whitechapel with him as my guide. Miller makes a new friend near the end of Part Two – and I can’t wait to see where the story is going to go in Part 3! Miller recognizes the man right away – you will too ::winks::
Please don’t pass up reading The Misfit because of the three star rating here. The first chapter caught me, but after that – I, personally, just couldn’t get invested in it.
The story did pick up towards the end, and I think I will give the next book in the series a shot. I’m interested in seeing where it goes, and how the character develops.
This is a great introduction to a new series by Stuart Keane. Like Matt Shaw’s ‘White Cover’ collection, this series is specifically written for fans who are KU subscribers. Don’t let that stop you from checking out these books though!
This is a great beginning to a series I’m looking forward to continuing, whether I continue my KU subscription or not.
To a regular person, they’re just tools. . . A chef uses them to prepare a meal. A surgeon uses them to save lives. To the maniacs in this story, however. . . Theirs is a much darker purpose. For them, the first cut is NOT the deepest. It’s just the beginning. . .
This is Book 1 in theManiacs with KnivesSeries, from #MichiganMadman Shaun Hupp’sUnapologetic HorrorLine. The author is NOT sorry this book contains:Gore, violence, dismemberment, rape, swearing, anda dozen other thingsyou wouldn’t want your grandmother to talk about at her Sunday church group. If you’re asensitive reader, this book is probablyNOT for you.
IT’S TIME TO MEET YOUR MAIN MANIACS!
Jen & Troy – Jen’s parents are out of town, and she just wants to have a little fun with her boyfriend, Troy. She hears noises and thinks that Troy, being the wonderful boyfriend that he is, has snuck inside while she was in the shower to fulfill one of her kinkier fantasies. She finally finds him, but realizes that something is wrong when he turns around… Troy wouldn’t be wearing her dad’s face as a mask. Oh shit!
“Guys that wear other peoples faces don’t get scared.”
Kim & Rich have been married for 5 years. She loves him, and he beats her. But he always says he’s sorry, so it’s OK (I just rolled my eyes so hard I saw my brain). The past couple of days have been especially bad, though – so Kim ruining tonight’s dinner was the straw that broke Rich’s back. What happened next was just a simple accident – one that could have been avoided if they had any ketchup in the house.
Alex & Owen begin as strangers in a bar, drinking & telling stories. The tales get taller as they tend to do when alcohol is involved, so can we believe Owen when he confesses that he’s the infamous Bay River Slasher – the most prolific serial killer to never get caught? Probably, because the ‘Holy Shit’ moment comes when Alex finally tells Owen who HE really is.
Ben & Erin are my absolute favorite characters! ‘Ben’ – The Artist, and Erin – The Masterpiece. ‘Ben’ has been reading too many books by Matt Shaw, and wants to be Art when he grows up. Erin just wants these things taken off of her face!
Loc 645 / 32% Erin is forced to look in the mirror after her first session with The Artist. She has her eight fingers and two thumbs sewn onto her face – read the story for more details.
“Erin nodded slowly, trying not to shake the fingers sewed to her face like she had done earlier.”
Aannddd… this is what I pictured…
Each story continues as the book progresses, meshing together here and there, and proving to be one of my main sources of hilarity so far this year! ESPECIALLY ‘Ben’ & Erin’s parts. I have FIVE highlights showing where I busted out laughing, and exactly what I was thinking as I tried not to pee my pants, (see gifs above for an example). (The tool shown is a costotome, something The Artist likes to use when he’s feeling creative. I needed to see it, so I thought you’d enjoy it, too.) I don’t want to spoil all the fun, so I’ll refrain from sharing all my twisted, and hilarious thoughts. Just promise me one thing… when you’re reading this book and you get to Loc 1443, play ‘BOING!’ sound effect. Then finish up and come back here so we can chat and giggle!
It’s been five years since the grisly events in Whitechapel, and the man believed responsible for the crimes, Jack the Ripper, has yet to be captured. Charles Hapgood is writing a book about the murders, and has agreed to meet with someone who has information on the case. Everything about this meeting is unusual, so when the writer invited the stranger into his home at 9:00 p.m., he is already on edge. The man introduces himself as Mr. Miller, and begins to tell Hapgood that he would like to hire him to write his memoirs. Ignoring Hapgood’s obvious irritation, and his many requests to leave, Miller finally brings the conversation back around to the murders, and Annie Chapman. He produces a piece of evidence, unknown to everyone but the investigators, and Charles Hapgood finally understands. The man sitting in front of him is Jack the Ripper, and he has a story to tell.
We’ve heard the theories, seen the movies, and researched the case online for ourselves. We KNOW this story. Right? Wrong. Michael Bray takes us deeper, and gives us a voyeuristic introspective of the MAKING of the Ripper.
Part two of I WAS JACK THE RIPPER will be available on May 19th, 2017.
(I can’t wait until May 19th! I’m totally invested in this story, and I can’t wait for more!!)
