…that new Crayola ‘Kittens Ate His Face’ crayon.
October is still pretty though.
October is still pretty though.
How I experienced so many different emotions while reading a 30,000 word novella is beyond me, but, that’s just how good Jeff Strand is.
KUTTER tells us the story about a ghastly, vicious sociopath named Charlie Stanlon. During the day, Charlie is the quiet guy that keeps to himself in the cubicle down the isle from you. He doesn’t want to chit-chat with you, or gossip at the water cooler. He despises you. He just does his job, and goes home.
Going home is what Charlie looks forward to. Because, at home, in his basement, there’s a woman chained to a table – waiting for the torture to continue. He likes to go slowly, make the best of the time he has with his women. Charlie lives by (kills by) a code, a set of rules (not like Dexter’s code, Charlie loves to cause pain & terror!), he follows that has kept him from being caught so far.
His only pleasure in life is to cause pain and terror…
…until the day he finds an adorable Boston Terrier and takes it home.
There are stories where you root for the bad guy – Mickey & Mallory, Missy Wallace (aka Roxie), and stories where you despise the bad guy, wishing horrible & disgusting things happen to him.
For me, Charlie started out as the bad kind of bad guy.
By the end, I wanted to hug him and tell him everything would be ok.
I really love this story, and highly recommend it.
Especially if you’re an animal lover.
There were two very emotional parts for me, and I physically ached while reading them.
Another 5 Star story from Jeff Strand.
